Portfolio Entry#1

Scenario 1

The problem in scenario 1 is, Lorna readily helps her friend Bill. It's not bad to help, but in this situation, Lorna is spoon feeding Bill. She is willing to help him as a friend, but as the administrative assistant in the Human Resources, it is also her duty to make sure her friend will be able to give contribution to the company. Spoon feeding her friend will be a big mistake. Bill must know how to stand on his own. If Bill rely on Lorna too much, he might became a burden to Lorna. And the possibility of abusing Lorna's position and power.

Most bearing facts in this scenario is Lorna's desire to help his friend, Bill. Helping someone through connection is indeed a good way to be recommended in a company. But, helping someone by spoon feeding them is definitely not a good way. Giving an official copy of the interview questions is one big bad example.

Lorna will be the one most affected by her decision. Firstly, because Bill might rely on her too much and might end up not doing her job properly. Secondly, if ever Bill will tell to others about Lorna giving him a copy of the actual interview questions. Lorna's position will be be in danger. Her action will be known as nepotism. Her small act of kindness might cost her -her job.

Bill will also be affected. Lorna's kindness might backfire on him, and might end up not helping him at all. If other people will know that he knew the exact interview questions, they will doubt his ability. People might call him incompetent. Rumors about Bill might result Bill's work performance or worst- his confidence.

If Lorna really want to help his friend that bad that she gave him the copy, then, one thing that I would make sure to do about the issue is, Lorna must not do it again. To save her job and her friend. There are always second chances. But Lorna must also know that not helping his friend is also a way of helping him not to rely to her or it would help him to stand on his own abilities.

If Bill got accepted, thanks to the copy, then, first thing I would do about the issue is, he must not tell that he got accept because Lorna's big help. He will have to work hard and in time, he will learn to become better. Because, if ever he told someone and they think he only got in because on his strong connection, then he will have to learn to become a better person for his job. He must show everyone that he deserve his job and he work hard for it. It will show that he is worth being accepted in then company. If not, then it'll just show he's not up to the job.

The best action in this issue is Lorna will be better off telling him the hardest possible question than giving him all the questions. It will be better for him to be accepted on the company by his own ability, though he might need a little advice. What matters is he'll be accepted with his ability and he knows he can do the things will be taking responsibilities in his work. This alternative action accepts all the rules. This is indeed the best action.

The worst action is Lorna giving the copy and getting caught. This action will really cost her her own job and power. It will harm her the most. Physically and mentally. Getting fired is really the result no one wants, even Lorna. It might also affect Bill's interview. Lorna's one simple kindness might take both hers and Bill's opportunities and power. This alternative actions is not recommended, in my opinion, it contradicts the rules.

The normal action I can give is not giving the copy nor give any hints or clues. This action might severs Lorna and Bill's friendship. Helping a friend is normal but not helping at all is different. If ever Bill got accepted but got no help from Lorna, their relationship will get more awkward. But, if they are not stubborn friends, their friendship can still be salvage if Lorna apologies. This alternative action is not the best but not the worst either.

The best action
to take is to help Bill by giving simple hints but a sure questions that will be in the interview than giving Bill the entire interview questions. The simplest and almost common actions by other. If it were me, I would pick this actions. It is best to help people but it's better to also know that helping too much is wrong.
